Clare Monfredo is a cellist, researcher, and educator based in New York City. Her work examines interpretation and individuality in classical music — how performers negotiate the constraints and freedoms of this tradition.

Clare performs across the United States and internationally, while also teaching and conducting musical scholarship. She is the co-founder and co-director of DownEast New Music, a contemporary music ensemble that performs in coastal Maine and commissions new works by today’s leading composers.
